The best animal encounter in nature goes to our alligator friend at a rest stop in the Everglades:
The best plant encounter in nature goes to the Saguaro cactuses of Mesa, Arizona:
The best meal of the trip is a tie between Central BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee:
And Taqueria Los Angeles in Plano, Texas:
The best burger of the journey was quite early on in the tiny town of Pringle, South Dakota:
The best takeout of the trip was China Inn in Warwick, Rhode Island. It was so good, we went twice:
The best dessert of the trip was in Portland, Oregon at Voodoo Doughnuts:
The best museum display was easily the Lego display in Philadelphia:
The best science fiction experience was in Riverside, Iowa:
The best science fact experience is a three way tie between the super moon eclipse in Scottsdale, Arizona:
The Very Large Array near Socorro, New Mexico:
And getting to see the sun in a telescope in Albuquerque, New Mexico:
The best snow experience was early on in our trip in the Colorado Rockies:
The best tree experience goes to the California redwoods:
The best odd and unexpected experience had to be the sculpture park in South Dakota with its eccentric artist:
The best unexpectedly beautiful town goes to Twin Falls, Idaho:
The best hotel or motel of the trip goes to the Candlewood Suites in Bismark, North Dakota:
The best hotel chain goes to Best Western. They are easily the best value for money in terms of comfort and cleanliness. Obviously, always read reviews, but we liked more Best Westerns than any other hotel chain we stayed at.
The best small town was the very friendly Tonganoxie, Kansas:
The best metropolitan area was Phoenix, Arizona:
As you may have guessed from previous posts and the last category on this one, we have been looking for work in Arizona. Chris has succeeded and after our Christmas trip to the UK, we will be moving to Phoenix, Arizona.
